S.P. Read Esq. Sunderland v Man U

Funny old game football isn’t it ?

Man U boss Louis van Gaal has claimed it will take “a miracle” for them to win the Premier League title this season.

I’m sorry, he said WHAT !!!!

In what other profession could you get paid so much and yet be so negative. “Sorry boss, there’s no way I will be able to hit my target this year, I’m downing tools now if that’s OK?”.

It could be mind games of course, but what on earth is he thinking of, unless it’s a ludicrous ploy to take the pressure of his own shoulders after just ONE game don’t forget !

Man U’s opening defeat of the season at Old Trafford was so bad that some wags were calling for the return of David Moyes.

United are clearly in transitional mode but they are still, to quite a degree, being priced on past glories. I’m not sure they should be odds on to beat Sunderland.

Sunderland’s home form wasn’t good last season but they rallied in great style to survive relegation and significantly beat Man U at Old Trafford in May and also knocked the Red Devils out of the League Cup.

The key team news is that Robin van Persie and Antonio Valencia are now fit and available and an appearance for Van Persie usually translates to a good result for Man U.

Sunderland are likely to have their defence strengthened by the return of Billy Jones and Santiago Vergini.

Buying bookings at 42 with Star Spreads is slightly over average for what referee Martin Atkinson has dished out over the last couple of seasons but I think this could get lively and could easily see Man U getting frustrated if they don’t make a positive start.
