Last year’s champions versus this years.

Certainly that’s how many will consider the 4pm fixture today given the electric start that Chelsea have made to the season.

With Man U still in transitional mode and Liverpool looking very average in the absence of both Suarez and (temporarily) Sturridge – Chelsea really are in a position to make a massive stand at the top of the table.

They are so far unbeaten in four games and are in better form than when they came to the Etihad in February and caused a blip in Manchester City’s title charge…

Spain international Diego Costa is expected to start for Chelsea despite suffering from a recent hamstring injury and that could be a massive factor given that Costa has scored seven goals in the four Premier League games so far this season.

Mourinho said; “Diego is not in the best condition, but he will start the game,” said Mourinho. He plays this game; he cannot play against Bolton [in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday]. It’s as simple as that. I know clearly that we have to try to protect him until he gets completely fit.”

It seems crazy to be saying it in September but this is already a must win game for City given they are five points adrift of Chelsea.

Ideally this game would have come later in the season when there is more at stake but it still should be a cracker and I’m buying goals.

A good result yesterday with a sell of the Liverpool superiority.
