Tangerine Dream or Blue Sunday?

This Sunday provides us with two intriguing and contrasting  fixtures live on Sky Sports. The lunchtime kick off between Manchester United and Liverpool is a clash between two of the oldest rivals in English football, a fixture rich in history with sub plots including Gary Neville’s relationship with the travelling Liverpool fans… and in view of his recent comments aboput what is United’s biggest game, Michael Owen’s relationship with the travelling Liverpool fans! A game that, dare I say it, could well be as exciting to viewers without a financial interest as it is to those that have got involved.

Although, the bookings are always interesting when these fierce rivals lock horns… 54-58, hmmm.

On the other hand, Blackpool’s visit to Stamford Bridge in the 4pm kick off lends itself perfectly to spread betting. On the face of it, Premiership champions Chelsea, with a 100% record this season including two six goal victories over weak opposition, are worthy 2.8 goal favourites over the Championship Play Off winners. Blackpool were on the end of a six goal thumping on their only trip to one of the big boys, yet have surprised many with a points return of seven from four games. Star saw a lot of business opposing the Seasiders points pre season, but they are fast becoming many fan’s “second team” with their attacking approach, and there may be small downside in opposing the current leaders getting a healthy start. Throw Blackpool’s popular manager Ian Holloway into the mix, and the notion that Blackpool could spring a surprise may well appeal to footballing romantics.

Anyhow, the fact they are on telly is sufficient justification to watch this classic Holloway banter from his QPR days I reckon…
